L'insegnamento concorre alla realizzazione degli obiettivi formativi del Corso di Laurea in Biotecnologie Industriali permettendo agli studenti di integrare le conoscenze già acquisite in ambito biochimico con competenze relative a contesti di sviluppo più recente dell'ambito delle macromolecole biologiche, con riferimento specifico al alle tecnologie disponibili per la progettazione e produzione di vaccini.

Il corso fornisce strumenti analitici per il design di antigeni basandosi su nozioni relative alla relazione struttura-funzione delle macromolecole biologiche. Le studentesse e gli studenti impareranno a ragionare in termini di relazione struttura-funzione anticorpo-antigene. Inoltre particolare attenzione verrà posta sullo sviluppo di capacita' critiche nell'affrontare problemi tecnici e scientifici nella progettazione di nuovi antigeni anche da un punto di vista dei processi di produzione che possono essere sviluppati, acquisendo conoscenze e dimestichezza su aspetti teorici, bioinformatici e tecniche di laboratorio specifiche in questo ambito.

The course contributes to the achievement of the educational objectives of the Degree Course in Industrial Biotechnology allowing students to integrate the knowledge already acquired in the biochemical field with skills in the field of biological macromolecules, with specific reference to technologies available for vaccine design and manufacturing.

The course provides analytical tools for the design of antigens based on notions related to the structure-function relationship of biological macromolecules. Students will learn to think in terms of antibody-antigen structure-function relationship. Furthermore, particular attention will be placed on the development of critical skills in dealing with technical and scientific problems in the design of new antigens also from the point of view of the production processes that can be developed, acquiring knowledge and familiarity on theoretical, bioinformatic and technical aspects of specific laboratory in this area.
